If you make a film called Bridesmaids, it’s little surprise that most people think it’s just going to be generic rom-com fluff pandering to the lowest common denominator female audience, and bordering on sexist. After all, that’s what 99% of wedding comedies are. However after a ‘work in progress’ screening as SXSW, critics came away impressed by quite how different and refreshing Bridesmaids is, and predicting it could become quite a big hit. It’s billed as a kind of female Hangover, taking the traditional chick flick conept od the run up to a wedding and going far more gross-out with it. Wiig leads the way as Annie, who’s asked by her best friend (Maya Rudolph) to be her maid of honour, however when the other bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) get involved things get ever more complicated. It’s due in cinemas this May, but click below for the brand new trailer.
