While he’s currently gearing up to play Bruce Banner/The Hulk in The Avengers, Mark Ruffalo is also looking ahead to other less tentpole projects he’d like to work on, by signing up to headline the biopic Low Down, according to Variety.
Jeff Preiss will make his directorial debut with the project, which focuses on legendary jazz pianist Joe Albany and the relationship he has with his 11-year-old daughter, Amy. Told from Amy’s point of view, the story unfolds as a strung out Joe drags himself in and out of cocktail bars and transient hotels trying to earn a living (although he did have career highs too, working with the likes of Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Charles Mingus). While a biopic about a drugged up musician sounds about as generic as it’s possible to be, added interest comes from the fact that this should be a very personal look into that world, as Amy Albany co-wrote the screenplay, based on her own memoir.
Production on Low Down will begin towards the end of the year, after Mark Ruffalo completes his work on The Avengers.
