While there’s been a lot of interest in JJ Abrams Super 8, for which he enlisted Spielberg as a producer as the director says he wants to recreate the wonder of the ET helmer’s early films, there hasn’t been much info on the plot. We’ve had a teaser trailer, a Superbowl TV spot and there’s been spits and spots of info, but that’s it.
However the full trailer has now been released, along with the official plot synopsis for the movie. They might not spill all the movies beans, but they help to fill in the gaps.
Here’s the synosis: In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
Other info we’ve had suggest that some sort of alien creature escapes when the government tries to move it out of Area 51, and that’s what everyone’s so bothered about. The trailer, which you can watch below, is equally mysterious, but it’s certainly trying to channel that Spielberg vibe of wonder and intesity, and you’ve got to appreciate its homage to the era in which Abrams grew up. The film hits UK cinemas August 19th.
