21 Jump Street has been pootling towards production for what seems like ages now, and while shooting hasn’t started yet, it’s certainly getting closer as the cast comes together. The latest to join is Brie Larson (Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, United States of Tara), who Deadline reports has landed the female lead role.
Brie Larson will play Molly in this remake of the 1980s TV series. However, there was nobody called Molly in the original show, so it isn’t known yet if she will play one of the detectives, a love interest to one of the characters, or a high school student. This is presumably the character Emma Stone was set to play, before she was forced to pull out due to landing Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-man.
Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube have already signed onto star in 21 Jump Street, which should start shooting in April. The story centres on a group of Los Angeles detectives who go undercover in a high school.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With A Chance…) will direct, from a script by Jonah Hill, Michael Bacall, and Joe Gazzam.
