As titles for films go, Suck City is certainly a good one. Sadly it appears that isn’t what they’re calling the film version of Nick Fynn’s memoir, Another Bullshit Night In Suck City, which last we heard was going by the rather uninspiring moniker, Another Night (unsurprsingly the idea of keeping the full title is a non-starter). However shooting has now commenced on the Paul Dano and Robert De Niro flick, and TheFilmStage reports Julianne Moore has also joined the cast, while Deadline chimes in with the news Olivia Thirlby has a role.
Dano will play a young writer who takes a job at a homeless shelter in Boston, where one night he discovers his long-absent father (De Niro) seeking a bed. The film will then deal with their relationship, with the dad an alcoholic conman who suffers frequent delusions, but who considers himself a poet.
It isn’t clear what role Moore will play – indeed the only reason it’s known she’s in the film is because a casting call was sent out for someone to be her stand-in. However Thirlby, who’ll be seen later this year in both Judge Dredd and The Darkest Hour, will play Denise, the love interest who helps Dano get the job at the shelter.
