Every classic tale for kids seems to be up for a new version or reimagining at the moment, from Oz to Snow White, so it was only a matter of time before they got round to dusting off Peter Pan and having a go at that. THR reports that Channing Tatum is attached to star in Peter Pan Begins, which is coming from writer Billy Ray and producer Joe Roth.
It’s early days though, with the film currently at the pitch stage. At the moment no studio is attached, but it’s doing the rounds in Hollywood looking for a buyer, and with the package an attractive one, it’s expected to get plenty of interest.
The screenplay will focus on the origins of the very first Lost Boy, Peter Pan, but no other details are known. Nor is there any info on who Tatum might play. Presumably he’s a bit old to be a young Peter Pan, as the idea of him being a boy who never grew up would be a bit silly. Maybe he could be a young Captain Hook? Who knows?
It’s starting to seem like every movie coming out for the next few years is going to be based on a fairy story otr classic children’s tale, with Hollywood leaving no stone unturned in their search for things to update. However whether audiences want it is another matter. Alice In Wonderland was ahuge success and set off the wave of classic retellings, but that doesn’t necessarily mean people want 100 more.
