While Quentin Tarantino often likes to talk up movies he hopes to make, only for those films to disappear and a couple months later get replaced by something else he sees passionate about, it appears he may have settled on his follow-up to Inglourious Basterds, which will be a spaghetti western.
Although the film hasn’t been officially announced, Italian film legend Franco Nero has been talking to Movieplayer (via The Playlist), and told them, “My next project will be a western, but not in Italy. Here it is hard work. The film will be called The Angel, The Bad and The Wise and is a tribute to Sergio Leone. It’s a movie that contains humor, lots of action, but also a great plot.
“We have already been signed by a dozen people who will be part of project. Among the filmmakers involved include Quentin Tarantino, Keith Carradine, Treat Williams, fifteen people in all. Americans who want to do this movie and so we are trying to produce it outside of Italy.”
It’s also being reported that Christoph Waltz, who took home an Oscar for his portrayal of Colonel Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, will star in the project.
However, while Nero’s statement on its own wouldn’t be enough to confirm that this is indeed Tarantino’s next movie (or that he’ll direct rather than just star or produce), AICN is saying that they’ve had word that Quentin’s next film will indeed be a spaghetti western, although Franco’s title for the movie is apparently completely wrong. Tarantino’s camp are keeping fairly tight lipped, just saying the director is ‘still writing’. There’s also no confirmation of any of the mentioned actors, or any plot details.
The film will reportedly go into production later this year, with filming to take place in both Italy and Spain (again contrary to Nero’s statement).
