As has become traditional, just before the Oscars are handed out, The Golden Raspberries – normally known as The Razzies – are awarded to the movies that were the worst or least deserving over the past 12 months. So while Hollywood was dusting off its tuxes and designer gowns, the rather less glitzy Razzies were held. They decided the Worst Picture of the year was The Last Airbender, beating off other nominees, The Bounty Hunter, Sex and the City 2, Twilight: Eclispse and Vampires Suck.
However while Sex and the City 2 may have been saved from the Wrost Picture dishonor, it did get Worst Actress (for all the main women), Worst Screen Couple/Worst Screen Ensemble and Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel. That said, with Last Airbender also picking up Worst Screenplay, Worst Director, Worst Eye-Gouging Misuse of 3-D and Worst Supporting Actor (Jackson Rathbone, also for Twilight: Eclipse), it definitely came off worst.
The Razzies were created in 1980 as a logical antidote to Tinsel Town’s annual glut of self-congratulatory awards by John Wilson, author of The Official Razzie Movie Guide and Everything I Know I Learned at the Movies. ‘Winners’ were determined by mailing ballots to 637 voters in 46 US states and 17 foreign countries.
