I don’t know why, but I always just presumed Ewan McGregor would show up on the cast list for Bryan Singer’s Jack The Giant Killer. It just seems like the sort of movie he should be in. Well now it’s happened, with THR reporting that McGregor is in talks to join the 3D movie.
The film has been in development for a long time – largely because of the amount of effects and world-building work needed – but with shooting due to commence fairly soon, the cast is quickly being brought together.
Nicholas Hoult was recently announced as the title character in this ‘adult’ take on the Jack & the Beanstalk fariy story, playing a farm boy who leads an expedition to free a princess taken hostage by a giant, a situation which threatens the uneasy peace between humans and giants. Bill Nighy and John Kassir will be the two-headed leader of the giants, while Stanley Tucci is the villain, a duplicitous advisor to the king.
McGregor’s onboard to play the leader of the kings elite guard, who helps fight giants. It doesn’t sound like a particularly important role, but presumably there’s more to it than THR’s bare-bones description.
Still the be cast is the princess who needs rescuing, but apparently Adelaide Kane, an Australian actress who starred in Power Rangers RPM, and Eleanor Tomlinson, who appeared in last years Alice in Wonderland, are both in contention.
Jack The Giant Killer reachers cinemas next year.
