Once a king of Hollywood thanks to the likes of Mrs Doubtfire and the first two Harry Potter movies, Chris Columbus’ stock has fallen following Rent, Percy Jackson and more particularly I Love You Beth Cooper, which tanked horrifically. However he’ll be hoping for more luck with a remake of the Korean flick, Hello Ghost, which Deadline reports he’s producing and may well direct.
The orginal Aisan box office hit revolves around a young man who attempts suicide, but when he fails he finds himself being haunted by four ghosts – a chain smoking cab driver, an alcoholic/pervert grandfather, a constantly crying woman and young kid with an insatiable sweet tooth – who demand that their final wishes be granted. The man discovers he can’t rid himself of these spooks unless he accedes to their demands, and so allows them to possess his body so that they can find their way back home.
Chris Columbus says, “After watching Hello Ghost I was immediately struck by the film’s ability to mix comedy, drama and complex emotional themes. Its strong universal storyline translates to any culture, and I’m looking forward to bringing a version of this wonderful story to the English-speaking audience.”
