While Dario Argento hasn’t made a truly good movie for years and his best period was in the late 70s, he’s still a bit of a name to conjure with in horror circles thanks to the likes of Suspiria, and so the news that he was going to take on the classic tale of Dracula, and shoot it in 3D, was bound to ignite some interest.
Now he’s starting to fill up the cast list, with Twitch reporting that Rutger Hauer has signed onto star in director Dario Argento’s new 3D horror movie Dracula 3D. Hauer will portray Van Helsing in the project, playing the notorious vampire slayer who seeks out Dracula.
No plot details were given for Dracula 3D – that is, it’s not known how faithful the film will be to Bram Stoker’s book, or whether it’s take plenty of liberties – and it isn’t known if the production will be shot in 3D or converted to 3D in post-production. However with several other Dracula based projects doing the rounds, including The Last Voyage Of The Demeter and Jaume Collet-Serra’s Harker, Argento had better have something to make his stand out from the crowd.
Dario Argento will direct, with production scheduled to start on May 16 in Budapest. A release date has not been set.
