Since he excited the world’s attention with Donnie Darko, writer/director Richard Kelly has only made two movies, neither of which really set the box office on fire – Southland Tales and The Box. However now he’s got a new movie up his sleeve, Corpus Christi.
Variety reports that the new thriller will be a ‘traditional narrative’ (unlike Donnie Darko and The Box, about a mentally unstable Iraq war veteran named Patience, and the strong relationship he forges with his wealthy, politically ambitious, supermarket chain owning boss. The title refers to the Texas town it’s set in, although it may be thematically important too.
As yet, the project is only part funded, although Kelly is busy looking for actors, and if he can get some okay names he should get the rest of the cash (especially as this is planned as a fairly cheap film). He hopes to start filming in Texas this July.
