On Friday evening a possible shortlist of directors for Die Hard 5 popped up online, but it seems whoever got that list hadn’t realised how quick things were moving as over the weekend the person chosen to helm the film was revealed.
According to Deadline, Smart People director Noam Murro is set to helm the fifth Die Hard flick, which has been in the works ever since Live Free Or Die Hard hit cinemas. The studio has yet to make a deal with Bruce Willis, but as he’s publicly said he wants to reprise his role as John McLane (and the studio wouldn’t have put the film into development without his tacit acknowledgment that he’d be up for it), he’s expected to sign on soon.
Murro may seem a strange choice, seeing as his only film so far was the largely ignored Sarah Jessica Parker indie comedy, Smart People, which doesn’t seem like a great indicator he’d be good with Die Hard. However Murro is a well known, award-winning commercials director, and apparently impressed Fox with his recent campaign for the new Halo game.
As yet, there’s no news on when Die Hard 5 will hit cinemas, but hopefully it’ll be here within the next couple of years.
