While many expected Justin Bieber’s concert film to top the US box office, in the end it was the Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston comedy Just Go With It that won out with $31 million. In many ways that’s not too much of a shock, as with Valentine’s Day on Monday, and with no other rom coms opening this weekend, it was bound to do well.
Bieber doesn’t need to cry though, as his film took $30.2 million, twice what it cost to make, and there’s a chance that once the final figures come in, Never Say Never could overtake Just go With It.
All four of the top films this weekend were new entires, with the CG musical Gnomeo And Juliet taking $25.5 million, which is a lot better than most non Disney or Dreamworks animated movie can claim. In fourth place was The Eagle, which took a less than stellar $8.5 million, undelining how badly historical action has been struggling recently.
