Ryan Gosling always seems like an actor who could be really big, but instead chooses projects that interest him, rather than just driving for mainstream success. However now he’s landed a project which should help him stay in the limelight, as THR report that he’s just closed a deal to star in the planned remake of Logan’s Run.
The film also has a new director. Carl Erik Rinsch, who was attached, was forced to drop out in the autumn due to scheduling issues (he was just the latest helmer, as the likes of Bryan Singer, Robert Schwentke and Joseph Kosinski have also been and gone from the job), but now the producers are finalising a deal with Nicholas Winding Refn, director of Bronson and Valhalla Rising.
It would appear Gosling and Refn came as a bit of a package, as both have just worked together on Drive, suggesting they really want to team up again for Logan’s Run.
The new version of Logan’s run is said to stay closer to the William F. Nolan book than the 1976 Michael York flick, with Alex Garland having scripted his take on a future society where people are executed upon reaching a certain age and those that seek to avoid their fate are deemed Runners.
The character of Logan is one of the executioners, known as the Sandmen, who ends up on the run after he becomes sympathetic with members of an underground railroad of Runners.
