It appears Christian Bale may be set to reunite with two figures from his past – Machinist director Brad Anderson and Empire Of The Sun author, J.G. Ballard. We Got This Covered talked to Anderson about his upcoming movie Vanishing On 7th Street, and asked him what he was going to be up to next.
He said, “I’ve got another project that Scott Kosar, the writer of The Machinist, is writing. It’s based on J.G. Ballard’s novel called Concrete Island. It’s an urban survival story that Christian Bale is attached to be in.”
The book is ‘A twisted adaptation of Robinson Crusoe, the storys protagonist, Robert Maitland, a wealthy architect, finds himself stranded in a manmade island (a section of fenced-off wasteland in the middle of a motorway intersection) between the Westway and M4 Motorway in West London, forced to survive on only what is in his crashed Jaguar and what he is able to find. As his condition degrades, it soon becomes difficult to determine whether Maitland is finding sanity or watching his mind fall apart as he finds companions on the island and eventually decides to remain there and forsake his former life.’
That makes it sounds like having emaciated himself for The Machinist, Bale might be losing weight again for Concrete Island. It wouldn’t be a surprise, as not since Robert De Niro in the 80s has an actor changed his body so drastically for various roles. However it appears it’s early days, so don’t be shocked if Bale has to drop out, especially if Anderson wants to shoot this year, as Bale is going to be pretty much tied up with Dark Knight Rises from May onwards.
