For a couple years now, Anton Yelchin has seemed on the verge of major stardom, but unfortunately despite roles in Terminator: Salvation and Star Trek, he hasn’t quite made the a-list yet. However he now has another project which could help his march to the big time, as STYD reports he’ll star in Odd Thomas.
STYD doesn’t have too many details, but the film, directed by Stephen Sommer (The Mummy, GI Joe) is an adaptation of the first in a series of book by Dean Zoontz, about ‘an ordinary man with an extraordinary gift. Able to communicate with the dead, Odd must use their silent clues in an attempt to prevent a mass catastrophe which threatens everything he holds dear’.
The premise makes it sound like a big screen version of Medium, especially as in the book Odd helps out the police if they’re stumped by a terrible crime. However the main plot finds him investigating a myterious stranger he dubs ‘Fungus Man’, after he sees that Bodoachs – malevolent spirits whose presense signifies imminent violece – surrounding the man, and discover that he may be about to wreak havoc.
