Early last year it was announced that James Cameron was set to produce a new version of Fantastic Voyage. At the time it seemed things were on the fast track, especially as shortly afterwards Paul Greengrass was announced as the director. However he left the project behind last May, and since then it’s been slightly in limbo.
However now Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox has hired Real Steel and Night At the Museum director Shawn Levy. James Cameron will produce this 3D adventure based on the classic 1966 Fantastic Voyage, which follows a group of scientists who are shrunk and sent through the bloodstream of a colleague hoping to save his life.
Back in October that James Cameron wanted Louis Leterrier to direct, but it seems a deal was never reached. Other directors such as Darren Aronofsky, Timur Bekmambetov, and Jonathan Mostow had also met with James Cameron about possibly directing the film.
Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) is polishing the script, which was originally written by Shane Salerno. At the moment, there’s no info on when the movie might reach cinemas.
