Shawn Levy’s a busy man. We reported earlier that he’s taken the job directing the remake of Forbidden Planet, and now he’s also planning to produce a big screen animated version of the Mr. Men children’s books.
The THR report which announced the news doesn’t say whether it will be CGI, although the presumption is that it will be. Although whether stretching Roger Hargreaves wonderfully flat world into three dimensions is a good idea is another matter entirely. However with over 100 millions books sold, it’s a massive property, so in this era of ‘brand is everything’ movies, it’s little wonder 20th Century Fox is taking a punt on the Mr Men, even if transferring properties for younger children from the page/screen has a rocky track record.
As yet it’s very early days, with no writer attached and no indication of when the movie might be in cinemas.
