There are already a few films based on inspired by Dracula in the works, from a prequel looking at how he became a vampire to one based on Bram Stoker’s real-life inspiration for the character, Vlad The Impaler. Now another has joined the throng, with Warner Bros. finalising a deal to acquire the spec script Harker by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy.
The package also include Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown), who’s attached to direct, while Leonardo DiCaprio will produce through his Appian Way production company.
It sounds like a bit of an update of the Dracula story, with Jonathan Harker becoming a London cop who is on the trail of famed blood-sucker. The character is being developed for a potential movie franchise. So yes, basically this is trying to do for Dracula what Guy Ritchie did for Sherlock Holmes (and soon there won’t be a Victorian tale left that a studio isn’t planning to modernise and make more action packed)
It’s also worth noting that while Leonardo DiCaprio is producing, he currently has no intention of starring in the movie.
