It was inevitable that the moment the man cast as the Man Of Steel in Zack Snyder’s planned Superman movie was announced, attention would turn to who will play the female lead. Over the last few days a few lists of possibles have been floating about, none of which seemed to carry much authority behind them (despite mention of inside sources, they appeared to be lists of actresses who are always mentioned in connection with these sorts of roles, rather than those genuinely being considered).
However now Variety, which is usually a little more trustworthy, is reporting that Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike are the three actresses being considered for the main female role – but they won’t be playing Lois Lane. There’s no news on who the character will be (or whether Lois Lane will appear at all), but the name that inevitably springs to mind in Clark Kent’s other main paramour, Lana Lang.
Zack Snyder, producer Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros are apparently looking for an actress who’s no too famous, as they don’t want her to overshadow the relatively little known Henry Cavill in the lead. Whoever they pick, let’s hope she’s better than the personality-free wet blanket that was Kate Bosworth in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns.
Eve is probably best known for She’s Out Of My League, and flirted with superhero flicks such as X-Men: First Class and Captain America but didn’t film either in the end. Kruger has had some meaty parts in the National Treasure flicks and Troy, but has never really hit the a-list, while Pike has stuck with relatively indie fare since her breakout Bond girl role in Die Another Day (although she’s impressed in the likes of An Education and Barney’s Version).
Apparently Snyder and co. are also planning to cast the main villain soon, but currently there’s no news of who might be up for the role, or who the baddie will be.
