With all these Snow White movies doing the rounds, it’s getting difficult to keep track of what’s going on with which. However while most of the casting talk recently has been about Universal’s Snow White And The Huntsman, a couple months ago, alongside reports Charlize Theron was going to play the Evil Queen in that movie, was the news that Relativity Media was courting Julia Roberts to play the villainous role in their rival flick, The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, which Tarsem will direct.
At the time it wasn’t clear whether she was just top of the wishlist or if there was a chance she’d actually take the role, but Vulture reports that Roberts’ ‘reps have finally begun negotiations in earnest’. While Snow White And The Huntman – which as we reported earlier today now has Kirsten Stewart in talks for the lead role – is a revisionist action fantasy, The Brothers Grimm: Snow White is said to be a darker, more traditional take on the story (going back to the original folk tale, with the dwarves as robbers and a dragon as part of the story). Oh, and let’s not forget Disney’s bizarre sounding Snow White And The Seven, set in 19th Century China, which yesterday got Michael Arndt as its new screenwriter. Wow, that’s way too much Snow White.
While it’s Snow White And The Huntsman that currently has most steam with production hopefully starting in a few months time, The Brothers Grimm: Snow White also wants to shoot this year, and they’ll be hoping Roberts will be helping do it.
