For quite a while there’s been talk of remaking John Woo’s action classic, The Killer, the movie that helped launch the director on the international scene and gave Chow Yun Fat quite a career boost too. However it was assumed any do-over would happen completely independently of Woo himself, however it appears the director wants to make sure the new version lives up to the original, so he’s now stepped on board as a producer.
While various director have been attached, the current one is Korean director John H. Lee (A Moment To Remember), who plan to make an English-language version, shot in 3D. Although Lee’s not exactly a well known name, Woo seems to think he has what it takes, saying “”While all my films are special to me, The Killer is truly one of my favourites. We are thrilled to reinvent it as an English-language film and know it’s in capable hands by the incredible visual style and tender emotion John H. Lee brings to all his films.”
Jung Woo-sung will star, and while he’s not as well known as Chow Yun Fat, presumably they’ll try and cast some better known names around him, especially if they hope to attract an American audience. However Jung will play an elite assassin who’s trying to protect a beautiful singer who accidentally blinded. However he can only do this with the help of the LAPD detective who’s trying to catch him.
Filming is schedules to begin at the end of the year.
