What was once Ridley Scott’s prequel to Alien is now the stand-alone sci-fi flick Prometheus, a movie that Fox seems to believe has massive potential, as they’ve just moved it from a March 2012 release to a far more prominent June 8th, 2012 release. They also now have another actor to join Noomi Rapace in the flick, as Michael Fassbender has signed up to star.
THR reports that he was first offered the role of an android last year, back when the movie was still set in the Alien universe, but with the talks dragging on and the project shifting its vision, it’s ony now that he’s actually inked his deal. However it’s not known exactly how Fassbender’s part man-part machine will fit into the film, as while we knew a bit about the flick when it was going to tell us about the run-up to Ellen Ripley’s adventures, the re-jigged plot is shrouded in mystery.
One question his casting does raise though is that in order to do Prometheus, he had to drop the flirtation he was having with Snow White and the Huntsman (which we just reported now has Viggo Mortensen in talks for the lead role), however Charlize Theron is also linked to both movies. Does that mean she’ll have to drop one too, or are her roles in both small enough that she can fit then both in? Currently it’s presumed both films will shot around the same time, so we’ll have to wait and see.
