It’s amazing how one movie can change a career – for the better or the worse. Emile Hirsch seemed on the up and up, taking leading roles in interesting indie flick likes Lords Of Dogtown, Alpha Dog and Into The Wild, and then it seemed he was set for a huge mainstream career when he bagged the starring role in Speed Racer. However following that’s film’s floppage, he hasn’t had a lead role since, instead just popping up in supporting parts in Milk and Taking Woodstock.
Now it appears he’s going back to what he did best, with Variety reporting that he’ll take the lead in a cool little indie flick called The Motel Life. The film will be based on Willy Vlautin’s book about two brothers who flee their Reno motel room after getting involved in a fatal hit and run accident.
It’s being put together by producers Alan and Gabriel Polsky, who last worked on Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans. It’s early days though, as while they’ve got Hirsch, there’s no writer or director, however it’s possible the Polskys will take on those roles as well. They hope to shoot later this year.
