The end of The Matrix Revolutions seemed pretty final (and with the bad reception of the two sequels, many would be happy to leave it that way), but it appears it may not be the end for Neo and co., as Keanu Reeves says we may be getting two more Matrix flicks.
While talking at an event in London to promote Henry’s Crime (as reported by AICN), Keanu supposedly said he’s committed to Bill & Ted 3 and talked about some of his other upcoming projects, but then dropped the bombshell that he’s recently taken a meeting with the Wachowskis concerning a two-part treatment they’ve come up with for the continuing adventures of Neo. He also added that the siblings have met with James Cameron to talk about the possibilities of 3D, apparently hoping they can produce something in three-dimensions that feels as fresh and different as the original Matrix did in 1999.
If this is true, it’s a while away, as Reeves doesn’t expect to hear much more until the Wachowskis have completed Cloud Atlas, which isn’t likely to even start shooting until this summer.
Incidentally, Keanu also said that Hood, the Wachowskis modern, urban take on the Robin Hood myth, which they sold to Warner Bros a couple months ago, was the most expensive script ever. Warner allegedly paid $5 million for it, and it apparently has Will Smith attached to star.
Now before you get too excited, this news hasn’t been confirmed by anyone, and it’s based on the hearsay of someone who supposedly attended the Keanu event at the ‘London school of performing Arts university’. As there is no insitution that goes exactly by that name (although there are a few that are close), it should be viewed with a healthy dose of scepticism. That said, with Keanu not having a sniff of a hit since the Matrix sequels, and the Wachowskis clout fading since Speed Racer bombed, the possibility they’re now think of returning to bullet time isn’t all that unfeasible.
