Last month it seemed like it was all over for the long-gestating movie version of the TV series 24. Executive producer Howard Gordon told EW, “As far as I know, it is in suspended animation,” following Fox rejecting the script by Billy Ray (State Of Play).
However he did add a note of hope, saying, “There is talk about re-approaching it. I understand (director/producer) Tony Scott is meeting with Kiefer Sutherland to talk about ideas. People are still talking about it.” Well whatever Gordon thinks, Keifer Sutherland still seems to think the movie is going to happen.
He recently sat down with Extra, and told them that the screenplay is still actively being worked on, “And I think [the script] will [change] up until the day we start shooting, and probably from that point forward, too. It’s a very difficult thing to take something that you’ve done for eight years, almost 200 episodes, and try and find a story that’s going to be unique and yet service the history of the show as well. That is to be expected. So we start shooting hopefully by next December or January.”
Of course, there’s no guarantee it’ll actually happen, but it does appear reports of the 24 movie’s demise were a bit premature.
