I debated on whether posting about this, as most people in the know reckon it’s a big load of bollocks, but as the rumour is fast spreading across the web, it’s worth talking about, even if just to shoot it down.
Ok, so here’s the skinny. The Sun, that bastion of journalistic integrity that never gets anything wrong and definitely isn’t prone to making things up based on virtually no evidence, is reporting that Bond bosses want Rachel Weisz to play a villain in the film. They also suggest that the movie will be called Red Sky At Night, while noting that ‘Ian Fleming’s three remaining titles The Property of a Lady, Risico and The Hildebrand Rarity are also being mooted’.
The Weisz rumour could actually be true, but despite The Sun saying they have ‘sources’ and ‘insiders’, it appears they actually have little more to go on than there has been since last March, when the rumour first surfaced. It’s possible they do have new info saying Weisz is in the mix, but as Bond fansite Mi6 is keen to point out, much of the story seems to be The Sun taking bits of the press release announcing the Bond 23 release date and adding in unsubstantiated gossip from dubious ‘sources’.
For example, Mi6 suggests the idea the film will be called Red Sky At Night came from an anonymous forum posting on a Bond fansite. Again, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that it’s true, but it’s hardly anything to base a story in a national newspaper on.
So what can take from this – well, Rachel Weisz may be in the film, and it could be called Red Sky At Night, but we’re a long, long way from knowing whether either of those things are true, or just someone’s fever dream.
