When a small, blurry version of the image above hit the web yesterday, the main reaction seemed to be, ‘What the fuck is that?’, with vision of the Fantastoc 4 flicks whizzing through their minds. Indeed that seemed to be the reaction of many involved in the movie as well. However now several more images have been released, as well as a poster, with even director Matthew Vaughn complaining that the image we saw yesterday isn’t how he wanted to introduce the film to the world (that said, a higher-res version has now been officially released).
He told /Film, I freaked out on them yesterday. I dont know where the hell that came from. I dont think its a Fox image. Its not a pre-approved image. When I found out, I said, what the fuck is this shit, and Fox is running around trying to figure out what happened as well. I agree. Its like a bad photoshop, which maybe it was by someone. It didnt reflect the movie. I was shocked when I saw it. I was like Jesus Christ ”
He then added, Im a fan of X-Men. Were not bastardizing X-Men, Im trying to get them back to being whole again… The costumes are blue and yellow as well, because fuck it, lets take it back it the original. Also, by the way, those costumes are hardly in the movie. The main costumes are like these cool 60s James Bond
It has always been a tough proposition to keep the 60s look of the prequel while ensuring audiences don’t think it’ll be a bit naff compared to the X-Men they’ve seen before, and it seems Vaugn is aware of that and is now doing a bit of damage control. Anyway, take a look below for five new images from the film (inlcuding our first look at Kevin Bacon’s villain), plus a poster. The first three pics debuted over at the LA Times, /Film had the other two, while the poster premiered over at AICN.
