Ben Affleck had to put up with a lot of stick about his acting, but as a director so far the acclaim has been glowing. Many were impressed with Gone Baby Gone and The Town was a true hit, making him one of the most in-demand directors around. However while he’s been offered several things, Affleck is yet to make up his mind what to helm next.
Deadline reports that there’s a new possibility, and that he’s mulling over directing American Bullshit, the Eric Warren Singer script which ended up on last year’s Black List of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. It tells the ‘the true story of Abscam, the FBI’s 1980 undercover sting operation of Congress to root out corruption which was the brainchild of the world’s greatest con man.’
Sony Pictures is backing the movie and appararently wants Affleck to direct. Ben hasn’t committed yet though, but is said to be seriously considering it. However he’s got a few other potentials to choose between as well, including The Trade, about the 70s wife swap of New York Yankees pitchers Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich (which will supposedly reunite him on screen with Matt Damon, as well as Ben directing), and Replay, about a 43-year old radio journalist who dies, wakes up in his 18-year old body, and gets to relive his life over and over.
