Now that the pointlessness which is the Golden Globes is out of the way, it’s time to get interested in a real awards ceremony – the BAFTAs! The nominations were announced this morning, and interesting reading they make.
The BAFTA’s always understandably has a bit of a British bias, so it’s perhaps not surprising that The King’s Speech leads the way with a whopping 14 nominations, including nods in all the major catergories. Black Swan has the second highest number of nominations with 12, Inception has nine, while 127 Hours and True Grit scored eight each (although 127 Hours missed out in the Best Film category). Interestingly the big winner at the Golden Globes, The Social Network, only scored six nominations.
To be honest there aren’t that many big surprises in the nominations, although it’s great to see Pete Postlethwaite getting a little posthumous recognition, as he’s nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for The Town.
