Adam Sandler is one of those people who likes to have a plethora of potential projects bubbling away, many of which fall by the wayside with only a few actually making it to the screen. Now he wants to add one more to the list, as THR reports that he’s in talks with Columbia Pictures to star in I Hate You Dad, with his Happy Madison banner producing.
Fellow SNL slum Andy Samberg is also in the mix, with the film centring on a father who moves in on the eve of his son’s wedding and promptly begins feuding with the bride-to-be. Sandler would play the dad, with Samberg as the son, even though less than 12 years separate the two in real life.
If the movie gets made, it’d be great news for Samberg, as while he’s got good notices for his work on SNL over the last five years, his film career hasn’t really taken off. The comedy Hot Rod, which he headlined, bombed, and there’s only been a few supporting gigs other than that. This could be his big break on the silver screen.
However that laregely depends on Sandler and what he decides he actually wants to make, and at the moment it’s too early to say whether this one’s definitely a goer.
