It seems Hollywood is finally ready to embrace David O’Russell again. Following Spanking The Monkey and Flirting With Disaster it appeared he was going to be a big deal, but after reports of bust ups on the set of Three Kings, and the release of his screaming at Lily Tomlin while shooting I Heart Huckbees, he got rather shunned and didn’t make a film for sic years.
However he’s now back with The Fighter, and since then the studios have been very interested in him, such as signing him up to helm the big budget videogame to movie transfer, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Now Deadline reports he may have another big gig, as he’s in early talks to helm the comedi thriller 2 Guns, an adaptation of the Steven Grant graphic novel about a DEA agent and an undercover naval intelligence officer who unwittingly investigate each other as each steals mob money.
Vince Vaughn is down to star in the film, and there have been rumours Owen Wilson is interested too.
One thing it leaves up in the air is O’Russell’s original script, Old St. Louis. Late last years the director turned down other gigs to make that and had Vaughn signed up to star, but the Deadline reports suggests that maybe the movie isn’t happening any more, although as yet its status hasn’t been confirmed.
