A Late Quartet has been floating around for a while now, with Ethan Hawke rumoured to be playing one of the lead roles for a while, before his name dropped out of contention. However now first-time writer/director director Yaron Zilberman has rounded out his cast, and got the very talented Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Jeremy Northam and Christopher Walken to play his central foursome.
Variety reports that Hoffman, Keener, Northam and Walken play a world-renowned string quartet struggling to stay together as they mark their 25th anniversary in the face of illness, competing egos and insuppressible lust. Imogen Poots and Liraz Charhi also co-star.
“I’m thrilled to have been given the opportunity to collaborate with such incredible actors,” said Yaron Zilberman. “I couldn’t imagine a more perfect cast to embody the characters of A Late Quartet.” Principal photography is scheduled to begin late January 2011 in New York City.
So a chance to for some top actors to really play off each other or snooze-fest in the making? We’ll have to see.
