BAFTA has announced the nominees for the rebranded Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award, which is the only award given out at the prestigious prize ceremony (held this year on Sunday February 13th) that can be voted for by you. Previous winners include James McAvoy, Shia LaBeouf, Eva Green and Kristen Stewart, and you’ll have the chance to help choose this year’s winner.
Potential nonimees were proposed by Academy members and leading insiders, which were then whittled down to eight by a panel, before Orange Wednesdays customers got to choose the final five which are now open to the public vote. So who are these up and coming talents? Well take a look below to find out, and if you want to vote for one of them to win Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award, head here to find out how.
Gemma Arterton
Although she’d established herself before 2010, with The Disappearance Of Alice Creed, Clash of The Titans, Prince Of Persia and Tamara Drewe, she’s shot up the star list in the last 12 months, and we can expect plenty more to come.
Andrew Garfield
While Andrew Garfield impressed in 2010 with the Social Network, let’s face it, he’s really shot into the stratosphere because he’s been cast as Peter Parker in the 2012 Spider-man reboot. So expect lots more of him soon, including Never Let Me Go in February.
Tom Hardy
Tom Hardy seems to have been breaking through ever since Bronson hit screens in 2008, but it was Inception that really made Hollywood take notice, ensuring him him big roles in upcoming movies like This Means War and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Many see him as an a-lister in the making.
Aaron Johnson
First coming to many people’s attention at the end of 2009 with Nowhere Boy, he kicked things up a notch in 2010 with Kick-Ass, assuring he went on every Hollywood casting directors list from then onwards. He should be getting him first mega-budget lead in Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer if all goes well.
Emma Stone
Like Tom Hardy, she’s been on the verge of breaking through for a couple of years, but with 2009’s Zombieland and 2010’s Easy A, she’s now certainly made an impression, although as with Andrew Garfield, there’s the suspicion she’s landed on this list for snagging a major role in the Spider-man reboot, in her case, Gwen Stacy.
