A few months ago it was announced that Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Funny People), was working on his fourth directorial outing, and that the movie will hit cinemas on June 1st, 2012. However while the release date was set, there was absolutely no info about what the film would be about.
However if Variety is correct, Apatow is going back to his biggest success and creating a spin-off of Knocked Up. They report that Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann have signed up to reprise their roles from the 2007 film. While the article doesn’t specifically say they’ll be the main character in the new flick, that’s the assumption.
In Knocked Up, Mann played Debbie, the older sister of Katherine Heigl’s character, who is married to Rudd’s character, Pete. Their seemingly perfect married couple is the counterpoint to the unusual arrangement Heigl and Seth Rogen has going on.
In many ways it would make sense if Rudd and Mann did get an Apatow film of their own. They’ve been in nearly everything he’s made (Leslie is Judd’s wife, after all), and have been widely praised for the work they’ve done with him. However they’re been stuck in supporting roles, so it’s about time he gave them the chance to shine.
Whether Rogen and Heigl will reprise their roles in any ways is yet to be heard.
