Heartthrob Robert Pattinson is once more trying to show there’s more to him than sparkly vampires by signing up to star in David Cronenberg’s long-gestating adaptation of Don DeLillo’s Cosmopolis. That may be news that’ll have a lot of people worried, but you’ve got to trust Cronenberg, who’s unlikely to have chosen Pattinson if he didn’t think he has what it takes.
Robert will take over the role it was previous thought Colin Farrell was set for, but it appears he’s had to move on due to scheduling conflicts. Pattinson will have to stretch his acting muscles though, as as in the Don DeLillo novel it’s based on, the protagonist is a bit of an asshole and there’s no straightforward narrative, instead following the main character over 24 hours as he travels across Manhattan (initially to get a haircut) cheating on his wife and getting paranoid someone’s trying to kill him, while also taking in financiers getting murdered, the funeral of a rapper and some violent anti-globalisation protests.
It’s still believed Marion Cotillard and Paul Giamatti are attached to the film. As yet a start date is yet to be set, although it’s exepected the film will shoot soon, once Cronenberg has finished work on A Dangerous Method. (Source: Deadline)
