Just before Christmas we reported that McG and Breck Eisner were Universal’s top choices to helm Ouija, which will be based around the Hasbro owned spirit board game. Now things have moved on and Deadline reports that Terminator: Salvation’s McG has officially entered negotiations to helm the flick, which already has a November 2012 release date set.
Universal is hoping to turn Ouija into a big franchise, and so it’ll be McG’s job to set up an on-screen world that doesn’t just satisfy for a single film, but promises more to come. However while you might be expecting a horror flick, the only info that’s leaked on the top-secret script suggests it’s an all-action adventure, which skews towards the likes of The Mummy and Indiana Jones.
Shooting should begin this summer, once McG has completed This Means War with Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon. While many think McG is a dodgy addition to any film crew, there’s a decent chance he could make a fun flick, although whether it’ll be one that’ll excite audiences enough to ensure a franchise is a different question.
