For years now, there’s been talk of making a movie based on the series 24, but due to various issues, including the Writers Strike, it never happened. However with the TV show coming to an end and Billy Ray (State Of Play) commissioned to come up with a script, there was hope it would finally happen now that there wasn’t the pressure of shooting 24 episodes a year.
However it appears the idea may be dead, or as 24 executive producer Howard Gordon recently told EW, “As far as I know, it is in suspended animation.” There is a little hope though as he adds, “There is talk about re-approaching it. I understand (director/producer) Tony Scott is meeting with Kiefer Sutherland to talk about ideas. People are still talking about it.
“I was disappointed [Fox] passed on the script but I’m certainly hopeful that the movie will get made at some point. Anecdotally, I’ve heard from people who are really missing the show and I do think there is more life in Jack Bauer.”
However if even one of the exec producers only has hearsay and conjecture to go by, I wouldn’t hold my breath for a 24 movie to ever appear.
