It was reported earlier this year that George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and co. had ‘broken the back’ of the story for a fifth Indiana jones movie. So considering how long it took them to get Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull made, that suggests we’ll get the film sometime around 2036. However a rumour has now emerged that Harrison Ford is keen to kill off the iconic creation in the new movie, and pass the torch to his son, played by Shia LaBeouf.
The news comes via ShowBizSpy, but whether we can trust it is another matter. It’s one of those stories where an ‘insider’ gave them the scoop, but there’s no info of who the source is or how close they might be to the production. It’s certainly not impossible, as it’s known Ford wanted George Lucas to kill off Han Solo in the third Star Wars movie, but the idea was rejected. Apparently Lucas is keen this time either, but Spielberg is considering it.
It’s difficult to see it happening, especially with such an iconic character whose name is even in the title of the movie, but it’s certainly not impossible. However until it’s officially confirmed Indy is dying, treat the rumour with a healthy dose of suspicion.
As yet, there’s no sign of when Indy 5 might go into production.
