After a long pre-production period that’s seen changes in studio as well as numerous problems putting the cast together, it seems Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi drama Gravity is finally coming together, with Sandra Bullock in the lead role. While she’s the only major character in the entire film – and will spend much of the picture on-screen, alone – there is a male role that was supposed to be filled by Robert Downey Jr, but he had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.
So who have they got to replace him? Well, in a bit of a coup, they’ve got none other than George Clooney to sign up, with the star fitting his role in next spring, after he’s finished his directorial effort, The Ides Of March.
Gravity is about a team of astonauts repairing the Hubble telescope who get hit by debris from an exploded satellite, killing nearly everyone. The film then revolves around the surviving female astronaut’s battle to fight her way back to Earth and reunite with her daughter. CWhile it’s the female role that holds the movie together, Clooney’s character is said to pay a pivotal part in the story, despite not being on screen for too long, which is why Cuaron and Warner have been keen to find the right person.
Shooting starts in the spring.
