With Valentine’s Day having eveyone and their dog in its ensemble cast, New Line is trying to outdo themselves for the follow-up, New Year’s Eve. They’ve already got Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank, Ashton Kutcher, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Biel, Lea Michele and Abigail Breslin (although not all of those have officially signed their contract yet) and now THR reports that Sarah Jessica Parker is set to join the movie, with Zac Efron and Halle Berry in talks.
The movie tells intertwining stories of a group of New Yorkers as they navigate their way through bittersweet drama and romance over the course of New Year’s Eve. Parker is in line to play the mother of Breslin’s character, who relies on her daughter for company and support. Berry would play a caterer who runs into a former flame, while Efron is on track to play a bike messenger who ends up trying to fulfill Pfeiffers New Years Eve resolutions in exchange for tickets to a big party. Sounds a bit like Efron is going to be in a bit of an Indecent Proposal situation.
Due to the time it’s taking to get the cast together (after the success of Valentine’s Day, agents are being far more exacting about their clients appearing in the follow-up), the mid-December shoot has been put back until February 1st, but it’s still due in cinemas in time for New Year’s Eve 2011. Garry Marshall will once more direct.
