Who knew the second week of December was the time every Hollywood studio wanted to kick off the campaigns for their major 2011 movies? Seems an odd time, but we’ve had trailers for Transformers 3 and Real Steel, pics from Pirates Of The Caribbean 4 (and a trailer next week), and now comes the first official poster for Thor – as well as reports a trailer has been shipped to US cinemas, and should be online tomorrow!
You can see the poster above, which debuted over at Yahoo!, and it’s definitely a moody affair, which employs Hollywood’s favourite trick in first poster releases, to have the character with his back to us, presumably to add an air of mystery. However while the Sin City-esque colours and looking over the shoudler pose are pretty hackneyed, it’s nevertheless a fairly cool poster, and gives us one of our best looks yet at Thor’s fabled, and rather oversized, hammer.
Here’s the official synopsis: Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the epic adventure, Thor, which spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. Its while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
