It’s not often that a movie with a major name like James Cameron on the credits can get a third of the way through production before anyone hears about it, but that’s what’s happened with an upcoming movie that Cameron will produce, and which will feature performers from Cirque Du Soleil.
Deadline reports that Shrek and Narnia director Andrew Adamson is helming the movie, which has already started shooting. Using Cameron’s 3D camera system, the film will be a hybrid combining narrative storytelling with Cirque performances that are being captured in 3D from different themed Cirque du Soleil shows in Las Vegas. Those performances serve as the backdrop of a magical world where the film’s lead character has been transported.
Cirque is financing most of the movie itself, with the hope of launching a series of family films that incorporate Cirque du Soleil into their storylines. It’s currently about a third complete, with Adamson in New Zealand at the moment shooting the narrative portion of the movie.
The next step is to find a distributor, with companies having already been shown test footage.
