He may only be 20, but Chris Colfer has had a huge amount of success playing gay teenager Kurt on Glee, and now he’s planning to stretch his wings not just by acting on the big screen, but writing the screenplay too! According to Variety, he’s scripted Struck By Lightning and hopes to be able to shoot it between Seasons 2 and 3 of Glee.
Not much is known about the film, other than that it’s an indie coming of age comedy and that producer David Permut says it captures the spirit of movies penned by the late John Hughes (but then, he would say that, wouldn’t he?).
The next step is to find a director and once that’s done find financing before a shoot later next spring or in the early summer. It’ll be interesting to see what Colfer’s come up with. It’d be easy to have just written himself a role as a Kurt Hummel clone (his on-screen character apparently isn’t too far off how he is in real life), but it could be he’s trying to show there’s more to him than a slightly camp, OTT singer.
