While reports that Jane Lynch would cameo in the upcoming new Muppets movie proved erroneous, that doesn’t mean there won’t be an impressive list of star names popping up in the film, to lend a hand to Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Kermit and co.
Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Zach Galifianakis and Jean-Claude Van Damme are already known to be appearing, and now THR reports that Ricky Gervais and Emily Blunt are joining in the fun. There are also rumours Mickey Rooney will show up, at least according to a Facebook post by one of his relative.
Segel and Adams have the key human roles in The Muppets, as a couple who head to Hollywood (along with Segel’s best friend Walter – a puppet who doesn’t know any others of his kind) and end up helping the Muppets when their famed theatre comes under threat from a greedy oil tycoon (Chris Cooper), who wants to tear it down. It’s not know who Blunt and Gervais will play, although their roles aren’t expected to be extensive.
Filming has already begun, with Jame Bobin directing.
