For a while now, Bryan Singer has been looking for a lead actor for Jack The Giant Killer, the epic fantasy he’s planning to make. While Aaron Johnson’s name has been floating around for quite a while, THR has revealed that he’s not the only one in contention for what is currently the most coveted role around for a young actor.
Along with Kick-Ass star Johnson, Singer is planning to test Nicholas Hoult (A Single Man, Clash of The Titans) and the lesser known Aneurin Barnard (the upcoming Ironclad) for the role of the young farmer who heads off to the rescue when the long-standing peace between humans and giants is threatened following the kidnapping of a princess. New Moon and Sweeney Todd star Jamie Campbell-Bower was also in the running, but he’s apparently broken his ankle and now cant test for the role.
Singer’s also looking for the princess, with the top names at the moment being Adelaide Kane (TV’s Neighbours), Lily Collins (Priest, The Blind Side) and Juno Temple (Atonement, Year One).
Test should occur in the next two weeks, with a decision being made shortly afterwards. It’s certainly sounding like an epic production, not least because the actors are being asked to sign up for an eight or ninth month commitment, which is a huge amount of time to shoot a movie. Indeed the whole thing is so big that while it was supposed to start shooting last summer, camera won’t roll now until March, simply because so much pre-production work needed to be done on the special effects.
