Multiple Personality Disorder (more properly known now as Dissociative Identity Disorder) has long held a fascination for film an TV makers, even though for a long time there’s been considerable controversy over whether it genuinely exists, or if it’s more or less ‘created’ between the patient and therapist. However it’s an interesting idea for drama, and actors certainly like it, as they get to show their range, playing completely different personalities in the same film. Now it’s Halle Berry’s turn in Frankie & Alice. She plays Frankie Murdoch, a woman suffering from multiple personalities in early 70s LA, who comes under the care of a doctor, played by Stellan Skarsgard. Frankie’s plight is made all the more unusual by the fact that while she is African-American, her alter-personality is ‘white’ and incredibly racist. Berry’s already being talks about for an Oscar nomination. Click below to watch the trailer.
