Back in June, Chloe Moretz, who despite being little more than a foetus, now has true star power in Hollywood, signed up to star in the indie coming-of-age flick, Hick, adapted from Andrea Portes’ novel. Since then we hadn’t heard much more about the movie, but now The Playlist is reporting that Kirsten Dunst has signed up.
Producer Christian Taylor told the site that recent vague rumours that Colin Farrell was also interested in the movie were true, but that he has now passed on the project due to scheduling conflicts (presumably with the remake of Total Recall). Derick Martini (Lymelife) will direct the film, about a rural Nebraska girl, Luli (Moretz), who gets more than she bargained for when she runs away after her hick family abandons her. Luli heads to Los Angeles, meeting numerous unsavoury characters along the way. Both funny and very dramatic – in the book Luli’s life of the road involves her becoming an accessory to a robbery as well as getting raped and tied up in a motel. Dunst will play Glenda, the hard-living grifter who takes the young Luli in off the road.
The plan is to start shooting early next year in New Mexico.
