It’s already garnering a lot of Oscar buzz and could well walk off with some awards next year (not least for Colin Firth), and now the UK quad poster for The King’s Speech has been sent to us, which you can see above. And wasn’t it nice of the Queen to let them do the poster photoshoot on her balcony (because of course, the marketing department would never fake it using Photoshop).
The movie is about King George VI, known to his family as Bertie, who was unexpectedly thrust onto the throne when his brother abdicated. This was particularly problematic as he had a bad stammer, but was now suddenly supposed to speak for the nation, which became even more pressing as war approached. Colin Firth takes the main role, with Helena Bonham Carter as Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother) and Geoffrey Rush as Lionel Logue, the man who taught Bertie to speak. It’ll hit UK cinemas on January 7th, but take a look at the new poster above and we’ve embedded the trailer below.
